COMMUNITY PARTNERS FOR VICTIM SERVICES TRAINING SCHEDULE
Be a positive influence in your community. If you enjoy working with people or are thinking of a future in human services, now is a good time to get involved. Whether you have a few or many hours per month to give, you can help make a difference! We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for all ages, including clerical support, crisis workers, on-scene responders, childcare, and community education and outreach. You tell us how much time you have and what your interests are and we will place you in a rewarding position with one of the Community Partners for Victim Services.
Community Partners for Victim Services is a collaborative effort of Columbia County Women's Resource Center, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Reduction Unit, Amani Center Columbia County Child Abuse Assessment Program, and Columbia County District Attorney’s Office Victim Assistance Program. This partnership was formed to meet the need for highly trained victim service providers in our community.
Training is available to enhance your volunteer experience and the amount of training required varies depending on your interest.

The training presentations offered are as follows:
Oppression Awareness Oppression Awareness training provides the history of oppression, who is affected, how they are affected, and how various systems work to support oppression. Learn about priviledge, ism's and institutionalized oppression.
Crisis Intervention Techniques Crisis Intervention Techniques will provide tools for the crisis worker to use when answering the crisis line, working with clients, even assisting friends and family with stressful situations in their lives. It covers active listening skills, appropriate responses to certain situations, including “what not to say”.
Sexual Assault 101 SA 101 provides basic information about what sexual assault is, who is/can be affected, myths and facts about sexual assault, current statistics and information about the issues surrounding sexual assault.
Law Enforcement Response to DV Law Enforcement Response to domestic violence will explain the relationship between the advocate and law enforcement, what role each plays in responding to DV situations, and will include audio and visual aids.
Child Abuse Prevention Child Abuse Prevention will define child abuse and neglect in it’s many forms including the effects of domestic violence on children who witness. Also covered will be myths and facts about child abuse, how to handle a disclosure, and how/when to report.
DV 101 Legal Advocacy DV 101 will provide basic information about the issues facing victims and survivors of domestic violence. It will answer the question, “Why does she stay”, as well as giving the advocate the tools needed to work with victims in a caring, non-judgmental way. Also included is information about red-flag behaviors in the battering personality, the long-term effects on victims and their children, and myths & facts.
Vicarious Trauma/Self Care Vicarious Trauma & Self care will provide information about the ways advocates are affected by the important work that they do, as well as explaining various ways that advocates can cope with vicarious trauma by taking care of their own needs.
"The Paperwork” As with all processes, it’s not over til the paperwork is done. J This final presentation will explain the uses and importance of the various forms used for documentation. Covered topics will be: grant compliance, in-kind, underserved populations, statistics, and why volunteers’ contributions are so vital to continued operations at each agency.
